Husband and I tried it right out of the box. (It was a fun project together...and then we happily ate the results!) First, we made sure to look for any bits of metal, etc. Saw none. Brushed roller a bit, just in case. We made the Light Whole Wheat (included in the manual), only used the press, not the other cutters. We wanted a thin, very wide noodle (about an inch wide or more) so we let the press make them very thin, then cut them ourselves with a knife. YUMMY!

We boiled some and we froze the rest for later use. BTW: If dough seems like FAR too dry, just add a slight bit more water as you do the final hand knead. Not too much water. Easy as you go. You still want it a bit dry. (We also have hand-crank pasta maker. This should get lots more use because it sets up so easily and using mixer to quickly blend the flours seems faster/less messy.) After eating homemade, light, feathery fresh pasta, I wondered if I would ever buy pasta at the market again. Fresh and clean makes you wonder why we all ever got so busy that we forgot to make OUR OWN food.
